Jet
Jet is a shiny black stone and carries the same
qualities as black obsidian. It is a soft stone that has been often
used in jewelry and carvings. Jet is actually a carbon that is very old and
highly compressed.
The stone is associated with mourning and carries certain negative energies
of the past, such as black coral, which was misused in black magic. Black
jet knives were used in sacrificial ceremonies at Stonehenge. However, in
Ireland, where the sea is turbulent, the Irish fisherman's wife burns a
small piece of jet while praying for her husband's safe return from the sea.
Powdered jet was used around an aching tooth, to cure it, before there were dentists. It has also been used to cure stomach ache and headache.
